National Music & Drama Theatre of the Komi Republic was found in 1992 as The Folklore theatre of the Komi Republic, aimed at keeping the originality of national culture, Komi language and self-consciousness. In August 2005 the theatre got its current name. This theatre is provided with ample opportunity to advocate creative achievements of Komi playwrights, poets, authors, composers, and the best patterns of Komi classical dramatic art of all genres existing up-to-date.
Our national theatre produces performances in national language of Komi people, popularizes folk culture. It puts on its stage performances in different styles, such as the folk drama, the musical epic poem, the musical comedy, the mythological narration, the modern drama, the comedy, the fact legend, opera-fairytale and others.
The National Musical Drama Theatre of the Komi Republic was the prize-winner of different theatrical announces a competition and festivals.
Every month National Music & Drama Theatre of the Komi Republic gives 5 – 11 performances on its stage, and also 4 – 15 performances in the villages and towns all over the republic. Every year theatre puts on the stage 2 – 5 new play or concert.
Except of in the Russian cities and Republics, Theatre got the prizes in different festivals in Finland, Hungary, Estonia, Norway, Poland, Bulgaria, France and other countries.
Theatre is known and waited impatiently in the most remote districts of the Komi Republic where its troupe goes on tour.
Since the beginning of first days of the theatre there was the continuous artistic director, the Honoured art worker of the Russian Federation, the National artist of the Komi Republic, the repeated Gowernment award-winner of the Komi Republic Svetlana Gorchakova.
