Fort Erie Native Cultural Centre Incorporated, most often known as, Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre (FENFC) of Fort Erie, Ontario Canada is a social/educational non-profit Indigenous organization that provides Indigenous Languages Instruction to Language Learners.
The Indigenous Languages are Anishnaabemowin (Ojibwe), Kanyen’kéha (Mohawk), On^yota’a:ka (Oneida), Gayogǫho:nǫˀ (Cayuga), Onöndowa’ga:’ (Seneca), Skarù·rę’ (Tuscarora), Onoñda’gega’ (Onondaga). These are the traditional Indigenous languages of the Niagara Region in Southern Ontario, which is the territory where the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre is located.
The Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre also began recording as many Indigenous speakers and languages as possible in recognition of the United Nations Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032 to show the world that the Indigenous languages are alive, albeit threatened.
The FENFC Spotlight Series on Indigenous Languages and Speakers offers a short recording of the following Indigenous Languages: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, Tuscarora, Ojibwe, Algonquin, Mi’kmaq, Swampy Cree, Woodland Cree, Inunktun, Inuktut, Blackfoot, Nisga’a, Squamish, Ktunaxa, Heiltsuk, Hul’q’umi’num, and Haida.
There are 27 episodes of 20 different Indigenous Languages spoken in Canada & US. Some of the speakers are multi-lingual in two or more Indigenous Languages, one speaker is fluent in their Indigenous Language and the two official languages of Canada.
FENFC was graced with the presence of Language Learners of all skill level, a Hereditary Chief, Haudenosaunee Faith Keepers, The Language Commissioner of Nunavut, His Honour the Honourable Russ Mirasty, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, and Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.
The FENFC humbly thanks all Indigenous Language Speakers who participated and acknowledge their part in maintaining, promoting, and revitalizing Indigenous Languages.
