Karelian Veps wrote a dictation in their native language
On February 16, 2024, a dictation in the Vepsian language was written in Petrozavodsk on the basis of the Karelian, Veps and Finns Resource Media Center.
Members of the Vepsian Culture Society, journalists, scientists, and students of Vepsian language courses took part in writing the dictation. Since the theme of the ethnodictation is family values and traditions of my people, the text in the Vepsian language was chosen about raising children in a family.
Three women had three sons: one sang well, the other jumped well, and the third was an ordinary child. Women were proud of their sons, boasted that they had the best sons. The only one who was silent was the woman whose son was no different from other children. When the women went to get water at the well, none of the sons rushed to help them, except for that ordinary guy. He silently approached his mother and took the heavy buckets from her. The wisdom of this short story is obvious – as you raise your child, you will reap those fruits.
The dictation in the Vepsian language was timed to coincide with the All-Russian campaign “Ethnodictant in the languages of the indigenous small peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation “Russia – the house of Peoples””.
The Vepsian Culture Society in partnership with the Ministry of National and Regional Policy of Karelia, the House of Friendship of the Peoples of the Republic of Karelia, and the PERIODIKA Publishing House acted as the organizer of the Vepsian site in Petrozavodsk.
