Reencuentro Taíno Conference 2023

In celebration of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, Reencuentro Taíno Conference is a first-of-its-kind conference on the Taíno language and culture held in Puerto Rico on August 6-11, 2023. This historic event featured linguists working on language revitalization, archeologists, artists, musicians, spiritual leaders, and esteemed members of our Taíno community from around the world. This inclusive gathering featured the participation of Taínos, Indigenous relatives, and non-Taíno allies who shared their expertise through keynote presentations, educational materials, musical performances, and much more.

  • Modern Taíno language variants
  • Archeological finds at the Tibes Ceremonial Center
  • Creating culturally-responsive curricula
  • Indigenous representation in film

The content published on the platform is the responsibility of registered users and does not commit the Secretariat of the Decade (UNESCO) and/or the Members of the Global Task Force for Making a Decade of Action for Indigenous Languages. Please note that the platform has been inactive since February 2025 and no longer accepts new uploads. While work is underway to provide an updated solution, the Secretariat of IDIL 2022–2032 remains available for any inquiries at: indigenous.languages@unesco.org.
