Evgeny Valentinovich Karakin, senior lecturer of the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology and chairman of the ROO “Federation of Gorodki Sports of the Republic of Karelia”, shared:

The event was held as part of the ongoing work of our department to popularize and preserve the traditions of the indigenous peoples of Karelia. We have been cooperating with the Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Education for many years. It is gratifying see that the management, faculty and students are interested in our Karelian game. A student of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism will write her final qualifying work on kyykkä this year. We hope that in the future, as physical education teachers, they will popularize kyykkä in schools in the Republic of Karelia. We sent historical information and rules to all participants of the master class. We will soon hold competitions for them.
